Missionary Mail from Johnny 4-22-09

Dear Family,

So I'm finally writing you guys a letter. Things are going really well here in Bloomfield. I love the people here. I find out transfer news this Saturday. I really hope that I stay because I have a hard time adjusting to new places and I really do like it here. Elder Miles and I are getting along really well, so I hope that we stay together for another transfer. But is is almost unheard of to stay with one companion for three transfers in this mission, so we probably won't. Like I said though things are great. We are teaching a ton of people but I'll talk about just a few of them.

First off we have the Wengerts. They are a young family who just had their first child. He is actually a return missionary but has gone inactive. They decided that they needed to start going back to church but he said that he wasn't really open to start going to the Catholic church (where her family attends) , so now she is investigating our church. They are awesome. She is close to being baptized. I'm really excited about them.

Another couple of investigators who we have are Brenda and Jim Henderson. Brenda is John's mom and we are setting a baptismal date with them later in the day . They are Navajo and are just doing fantastic. They both read from the Book of Mormon together and are really gaining testimonies. The only problem is that she has a boyfriend who is standing in her way. His name is Deitrich and he has actually been baptized but it was along time ago and he knows nothing about the church and wants nothing to do with it. But they are getting married and hopefully his heart will soften towards the Gospel. As for right now, he won't even look at us much less talk to us. But hopefully we can get to him. So those are a few of the people we are teaching, and hopefully I stay so that I can tell you more about them.

Oh a cool story though, yesterday I went on exchanges with Elder McDonald (my former companion) in Bloomfield 1st Ward (one of the wards I used to cover here) and we had dinner with the Pohls (the Weiser people). It was really cool. They showed me some pics and told me stuff about the town. Her husband is way, way Catholic but really cool and funny. It was awesome, but it also made me miss home quite a bit.

Oh another crazy story, I left my scriptures on top our car and then drove off with realizing it. Well, two hours later I realized that I didn't have my scriptures so I was freaking out. We went back and looked for them but couldn't find them, so I prayed about it but still couldn't find them, but for some reason I had a feeling this was going to be okay. So we went about our day like normal and went home that night. We had a message on our answer machine with someone saying they had found my scriptures. It was pretty awesome. If only that would happen with my wallet. About my wallet though.......I also had my social security card in there so is there anything that I can do about that? This stupid wallet thing is really stressing me out.

That’s okay though, it sounds like things are still going well at home. How is church there? I’m sure the wards are huge. They are generally smaller here but still pretty solid. Well I don’t have a ton more to write. Like I said things here are great. I know that this is the only true church on the earth and I get to tell people about it all day!! Never take it for granted. I’m realizing now how much of a blessing it really is in our lives. I love you guys so much. Stay Strong! I actually hit my ten-month mark! Crazy!! I love you guys. The Church is True!!

Your loving son/brother/friend,

Elder Hullinger
